How are CAT scaled score and percentile score calculated?
If you check the CAT 2020 score card, you will see two kinds of scores: 1) the Scaled score, and 2) the Percentile score. Both the scores are calculated using a different methodology.
- The scoring process starts with first calculating the section-wise RAW scores and then adding them to arrive at the Total RAW score.
Please note that for calculating RAW scores, the official marking scheme is applied: for each correct answer one mark is allotted, while for an incorrect answer 1 mark will be deducted.
- In the next step, the Raw scores are NOrMALIZED to account for difference in difficulty levels of question papers across different sessions. These normalized scores are called SCALED scores.
- Finally, the Scaled scores are converted to PERCENTILE forms.
CAT Counselling 2020
There will not be centralized counselling of CAT 2020. It is because even though the IIMs and many other B-schools accept CAT scores for admission, they conduct their own counselling/selection process. After the declaration of CAT 2020 results, these institutes will release detailed counselling notification, including schedule and rules and regulations.
The selection process typically comprises Written Ability Test or Group Discussion and Personal Interview (WAT/GD-PI).
To participate in the counselling process conducted by an institute, the candidate needs to apply directly to the institute in online mode based on their CAT 2020 scores. The institute will then go through the applications and shortlist candidates for the counselling cum admission process.
