NIRF Law Rankings 2020: NLSIU Bangalore has retained its top position in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings for Law that was released on June 11. The institute has now been ranked the best law college in the country by the NIRF for the third time in a row. The next two spots in the NIRF law ranking 2020 were occupied by NLU Delhi and NALSAR Hyderabad, thus retaining their positions from the previous edition. The NIRF Ranking 2020 for Law category lists the top 20 law colleges in the country. The NLUs continue to dominate the rankings, with 11 of them ranked inside the top 20.
The NIRF Rankings of top law colleges 2020 is prepared using five parameters: Teaching and Learning Resources, Research and Professional Practice, Graduation Outcome, Outreach and Inclusivity and Perception.

NIRF Law Rankings 2020 – Key Highlights
- A total of 20 law colleges have been listed in NIRF Rankings 2020 for Law category. In the previous edition, the rankings have been published for 15 colleges.
- NLSIU Bangalore tops the rankings for the 3rd consecutive time
- Second and third position went to NLU Delhi and NALSAR Hyderabad
- Top three maintain the same position as they did in the last edition of NIRF Rankings.
- NLUs dominate the rankings: There are 7 NLUs inside the top 10, and 11 inside the top 20. In the NIRF Law Rankings 2019, 9 out of the top 15 law colleges were NLUs.
- Symbiosis Law School is the top private law school: The institute is ranked at 8th, and is followed by KIIT, Bhubaneswar, and Christ University, Bengaluru at 12th and 20th positions
- No new entrant in Top 10: The top half remains intact, through some of them interchange positions, like NLU Jodhpur moves one spot to 5, while WBNUJS drops one spot to 6. GNLU climbs two spots to 7, while Jamia Millia Islamia loses one spot to be ranked 9. RGNUL keeps its 10th spot.
- States with maximum representations: Delhi – 3, UTtar Pradesh -3, West Bengal – 2, Odisha – 2, Karnataka – 2
- NIRF Rankings are currently published for 10 categories – overall, engineering, management, law, medical, architecture, dental, pharmacy, college and university.
- Law as a category was added to the NIRF Rankings in 2018. NIRR rankings itself was published for the first time in 2016.
